Epoxy floor removal service in the Midlands sounds like demolition and behaves like surgery. The temptation is to attack it — bigger machine, heavier tooling, get it off and move on. That approach costs people slabs. Cured epoxy is often bonded harder than the concrete beneath it, so aggressive removal doesn’t strip the resin cleanly; it tears the top layer of concrete off with it, leaving a cratered, uneven substrate that then needs a screed to make it usable again. What should have been a removal job turns into a rebuild, and the extra cost lands on you rather than the contractor who caused it.
The other failure runs the opposite way. Somebody removes the visible coating, sees grey concrete, and calls it done. Except a thin skim of resin remains in the surface pores, invisible unless you know what you’re looking at, and the new floor bonds to that residue rather than to the slab. It lifts within a year. Ron assesses the existing floor — thickness, resin type, how well it’s still bonded and what condition the concrete beneath is in. Core samples or test patches are taken where the build-up is unclear.
He’ll also establish what’s going down afterwards, since the required profile differs between a thin coating and a 4mm screed.

On anything unusual, we strip a test panel first. This shows how the coating behaves, how the concrete underneath responds and how fast the work will actually go.

Removal is noisy and generates debris, so the zone is screened and extraction is set up before machines start. Adjacent production, offices and stock stay protected.

The primary method runs across the main area in overlapping passes. Progress is checked constantly, because concrete varies across a floor and tooling that worked in one bay may glaze in the next.
Where the coating comes away in sheets, work moves quickly. Where it’s well bonded, it comes off millimetre by millimetre, and the honest position is that this is where removal jobs get expensive.
Perimeters, coved upstands and areas around plant are stripped by hand-held grinders. Coving in particular is slow work and it’s often underestimated in cheaper quotes.
Leaving resin at the wall line guarantees a visible fault line in the new floor.
Once the bulk is off, we grind the surface to remove resin remaining in the pores and open the concrete to the profile the new system needs — usually CSP 2–3 for coatings.
This is the step contractors skip. A floor that looks grey isn’t necessarily clean, and residual resin in the surface will undermine whatever goes down next.
Removal exposes everything the old floor was hiding. Cracks, hollow patches and damaged joints all become visible.
Cracks are addressed through floor stitching, broken areas through concrete floor repairs, and perished joints through mastic floor joint repairs.
We also retest for moisture at this point, since damp is often the reason the last floor failed.
Removed material is collected, contained and disposed of correctly. Resin waste has specific handling requirements, and we deal with them rather than leaving skips of debris behind.

Removal is the start of a rebuild.
