Most failed floors in this country were never a paint problem. Industrial floor painting in the Midlands fails for one reason above all others: the slab underneath was never prepared properly. A roller and a tin of two-pack will look brilliant on a Friday. By the following spring, you’re looking at peeling edges, blistering near the loading bay and a tyre-marked path where the forklifts turn.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth. Concrete holds moisture, and Irish concrete holds a lot of it. Vapour pushes upward through the slab and lifts any coating that hasn’t been mechanically keyed and correctly primed. That’s why we grind, we test, and only then do we paint.

Industrial floor painting is the application of a heavy-duty, chemically cured coating onto a prepared concrete slab. It is not decorative paint. It’s a working surface built to take load, abrasion, spillage and cleaning chemicals for years.
The system you need depends entirely on the traffic and the environment. Here’s what we actually specify.
Choosing between these isn’t guesswork. It comes down to your loadings, your chemicals, your cleaning regime and your slab condition.
The Midlands has a particular mix of building stock, and it matters more than most contractors admit.
Plenty of factories around Athlone, Mullingar and Tullamore were built in the 1970s and 1980s. Those slabs were often poured without a damp-proof membrane, or with one that has long since failed. As a result, moisture vapour rises constantly. Paint applied over that will blister within months.
We test for it. A simple hygrometer reading tells us whether we need a moisture-tolerant primer or a full damp-suppression system before any colour goes down.
Then there’s the climate. Irish humidity slows curing and can cause amine blush on epoxy, leaving a greasy film that ruins adhesion between coats. Because of that, we monitor dew point on site and adjust our timings rather than pushing on regardless.
Traffic patterns matter too. The Midlands sits on the country’s main logistics corridor, so distribution centres here run hard. Reach trucks, pallet trucks and HGV tail lifts hammer the same routes daily. Meanwhile, agri and food processing sites deal with washdown, organic acids and constant wet conditions.
Compliance adds another layer. The HSA expects slip-resistant surfaces in wet and greasy areas, along with clearly defined pedestrian routes. Food and pharma sites face BRC and HACCP auditors who look hard at floor condition, coving and joint detail.
Get any of that wrong and you’re repainting inside two years. Get it right and you’ll get eight to twelve years from a properly specified system.
We follow the same disciplined sequence on every job, whether it’s a 200m² workshop in Birr or a 6,000m² distribution shed outside Athlone.
Ron visits your site, usually within a few days. He checks slab hardness, existing coatings, moisture levels, contamination and crack patterns. He’ll also ask about your shifts, your chemicals and your cleaning routine.

This is where the job is won or lost. We never rely on acid etching.
For most floors we use floor grinding with diamond tooling to open the surface and create a mechanical key. Where old coatings, thick contamination or laitance need removing, we switch to dust free shot blasting for a fast, uniform profile.
Everything runs through H-class vacuum extraction, so your neighbouring production areas stay clean. Our full floor preparation approach is the single biggest reason our coatings last.
Once the slab is clean, the defects become obvious. We fix them properly before painting.

If there’s a failed coating already down, our epoxy floor removal service strips it back to sound concrete first.
We apply a penetrating epoxy primer to seal the surface and lock down the profile. On damp slabs we use a moisture-tolerant primer instead. Priming also stops pinholing, which is the usual cause of that speckled, blown finish you see on cheap jobs.
Primer typically needs 6–12 hours before overcoating, depending on temperature.
Now the colour goes down. We apply two coats as standard, rolled or squeegee-applied depending on the system.
Anti-slip aggregate is broadcast into the wet coat where needed, then locked in by the topcoat. Bay colours, walkway colours and demarcation are set out at this stage so everything lines up with your traffic plan.
Epoxy is normally touch-dry in 8–12 hours. Light foot traffic follows at around 24 hours. Full forklift and chemical service comes at 5–7 days at 15–20°C. Cold slabs cure slower, so we plan accordingly.

A properly specified coating is one of the cheapest performance upgrades in your building. Here’s what you actually get.
A prepared and primed epoxy system routinely lasts eight to twelve years under warehouse traffic. A poorly prepared one lasts eighteen months. The materials cost roughly the same, so the difference is entirely in the workmanship.
Wet floors cause a large share of workplace injuries. Broadcast aggregate gives you measurable grip in washdown zones, ramps and loading areas. However, we grade it carefully, because an over-aggressive surface becomes impossible to clean.
Sealed floors don’t absorb oil, coolant or product spillage. Scrubber-driers glide instead of dragging. As a result, most clients cut cleaning time noticeably within the first month.
Bare concrete sheds fine dust constantly. That dust ends up in machinery, in product and in lungs. Coating stops it at source, and our dust proofing systems handle the areas that don’t need full paint.
We work nights, weekends and phased sections. Because we seal and extract properly, adjacent lines usually keep running.
